The portrayal of African communities in UK media has evolved over time but remains predominantly negative, characterized by stereotypes and marginalization. In earlier decades, media portrayals were largely limited to sensationalist and often derogatory depictions, reinforcing negative stereotypes and contributing to social exclusion. In recent years, there has been a gradual shift towards more nuanced and diverse representations. However, these improvements are uneven and often overshadowed by persistent negative portrayals. Despite efforts to provide more balanced coverage, the media's influence on public perceptions and social integration remains significant. Methodology

This study investigates the impact of biased media representation on the social integration of African minority communities in the UK. The methodology employed integrates various research approaches to comprehensively address the research questions. The study adopts a positivist approach, emphasizing the objective analysis of measurable data. Positivism is chosen because it allows for the examination of media bias through quantitative methods, providing clear, objective patterns in media portrayals and their effects. Although realism acknowledges both objective and subjective elements, positivism's focus on quantifiable evidence aligns with the study’s goals. The research utilizes a survey strategy, employing a structured questionnaire to collect quantitative data. This design facilitates the collection of extensive data from a large sample, enabling the identification of patterns. The survey includes both closed and open-ended questions to capture a range of perspectives on media portrayals and their impacts. Stratified random sampling is used to ensure a representative sample of the diverse minority groups in the UK. This technique divides the population into strata based on characteristics such as race, age, and gender, and then randomly selects samples from each stratum. This approach enhances the accuracy and reliability of the findings by ensuring that each subgroup is adequately represented. Data is collected through a survey designed on Google Forms. The questionnaire, consisting of demographic questions and research-focused queries, is distributed via email, social media, and community events. Participants are informed about the study's purpose and their rights, and the instrument is pre-tested to ensure clarity. Quantitative data is analyzed using statistical methods, including descriptive and inferential statistics, with the help of SPSS software. This analysis aims to uncover trends within the data, providing insights into the impact of biased media representations.
